How to Choose the Right MLM / Network Marketing Company

Here are the key factors to consider when selecting an MLM / Network Marketing Company:

1. Carefully research the company.

Company’s Track Record, Financial Stability

How long have they been in business? If the company is less than 2 years old, the probability of failure is high. If it’s more than 15 years old, you’ve probably missed most of its growth.

Examine the management team to see if it has a solid mix of people who’ve been involved in managing successful traditional and network marketing companies. Who are they? What’s their mission? Are they people with INTEGRITY? What’s their track record, past experience?

Search the internet to see if the company has any lawsuits or outstanding complaints against it. If the company is solid, you can assess the next factor.

Check also if the company has (c) international or global presence. Even though you have no plans of going international today, you cannot control the growth of your network in the future.

If the Network Marketing companies have been around for decades, you should examine if they are still growing and bringing in new reps and customers each and every single day.  You can get annual DSA statistics of the company if they are among the top 100 direct selling companies in the world. If they are not in the top 100 after a decade in business, you need to ask yourself why they have not made the great leap forward.


2. Find a product or service you’re passionate about.

Does the company need to have a physical product for me to offer to friends, co-workers, people online, etc? Does their products excite me?

If not, find another company. Also ask yourself, is this a product or service that’s in high demand and will be for many years to come?

Is this a consumable product or service people must reorder every month?

Is there a genuine need for the product or service?

Is the product or service unique in some way? Check also if the products are patented and exclusive to the company. There are very good imitators out there. You don’t want to see your products displayed at department stores or at any point, do you?

If it’s a product, does the company manufacture it? If it’s a service, does the company perform the service itself? You want the answer to be yes.

Check to make sure the company will be able to handle rapid growth in product orders or service performance.

Products must be of value but not overpriced and preferably with a money-back guarantee.


3. Examine the compensation plan:

Is the plan easy to understand and explain? Does it reward new associates who sponsor a couple of people, or do you have to sponsor hundreds to make a decent income?

Check if there are purchase requirements so you can weigh that monthly investment into your decision.

Ask for average annual incomes at different levels of the company to get a picture of what people are making, then ask how long it takes to reach your desired level.

Also find out if commissions are paid monthly, weekly or daily. Weekly is best–it puts less strain on the company and provides quick and consistent pay for you.

A good question to ask yourself would be, “Can I still make money if my network just consumes the products and does not recruit anybody?” Answer should be “YES;” otherwise, run away as fast as you can!

Another important question is Can you generate immediate income?

Beware of network marketing companies is offering very high returns. It is usually a sign that it could be a scam or money game. Chances you and your friends will get burn.


4. Determine the amount of help you’ll get with marketing.

Does the company offer full-colour marketing pieces, DVD presentations and customizable associate websites?

Will it train you to market your business?

Make sure the company has developed a solid internet-based ordering system so customers can order via the site. Also, the site should allow you to sponsor new associates.

5. Find out what type of and how much training is offered.

Does the company offer a reasonably priced (under $50) associate training kit? Is there training available online? Are there conventions and conferences held in cities near you?

When you find several companies that meet your criteria, you then have to use your gut instincts to make a final decision. Does this company feel right? If so, you’re ready to begin a career in network marketing.

6. Is the person who is introducing you to the opportunity committed to YOUR success?

If they are, the company is strong, and the product or service is a winner, (and, of course, you’re willing to learn) you WILL succeed. There’s a big difference between a “sponsor” and a “recruiter.” A sponsor coaches. motivates and trains and a recruiter just signs people up and in most cases, abandons them.

7. What types of things will motivate you to work harder?

I’ll be brutally frank, network marketing / MLM is a tough business. There are no short cuts. No free lunch. It is not a get rich quick business. But if you work consistently to build your network, you can earn money beyond your wildest dreams.

You’ll have to treat it like any business.You’ll have to work longer, harder, develop new business skills and think about how you can improve your success rate / business acumen all the time. The better you are at doing all of these, the more you will earn.

That said, network marketing is a level playing field… meaning we all start from zero. So even if you are new to network marketing, you can still achieve some level of success depending on your capability of learning and applying the  skill sets you were thought (duplicating). Most good and successful network marketing companies have got a good Business Success System. Learn it, Use it, Duplicate it.

In real estate, it’s all about location, location, location. In network marketing, it all about duplication, duplication, duplication. Make things simple for yourself and for all who come after you. If it is simple, everyone can duplicate your success.

When a team member gets 20 or more people in their team, they have a tendency to get into a motivational or management mode. The excuse for doing this is to “help” their team members. This often is no more than giving advice on how to do the business – some advice of which may be faulty industry practice which could do harm than good to your organisation. If the leader does not have much experience or do not sponsor or recruit  builders and  customers in sufficient numbers, the team’s activity and morale will start to decline.

So what are the consequences of going into a motivational or management mode?


If your team members see that you are not actively sponsoring or recruiting, they will also take the easy way out and do the same as that it is far easier to be a “motivator” or “team manager” than to be a recruiter or sponsor.


Sponsoring and getting new customers is the life blood of the network marketing business. When distributors do not build a big enough team, they do not earn enough money and this usually leads to people quitting.


No one wants to join a team that is not growing. They want to join a team that has new talent flowing through their ranks and new people being promoted.  Where’s the motivation when the team seems like an old boys’ club of tired old faces. Smart people will begin to wonder if they had joined the right team if their members do not seem to be able to sponsor new people. They may even begin to have doubts if they have joined the right company or whether the products are saleable.  Nothing is more de-motivating than seeing an inactive leader.


Network Marketing is a volunteer business. If you are not in the trenches actively bringing in new people, your volunteer army won’t be on the front lines in battle with you. Train them right, and give them the skills they need for success and you stand a better chance of succeeding. Success in MLM or Network Marketing requires sustained recruitment and personal product volume..


People join this wonderful business to be their own boss. Sure they want to know how to do the business. But they don’t want to be told to recruit if the leader does not lead by example. Micro-managing people is counter-intuitive.


We are in a business where personal sponsoring is key to our success. It’s a Numbers Game. The more people you see, the luckier / richer you get. What’s the point of opening a shop if you have only a few customers or have short working hours?  Building your clientèle list is key to your business survival. Get into massive action mode instead. Call more people, see more people.


If you do not spend your productive time on money producing activities, you can’t get a good return on your business.  Earning a low income is not what you’ve signed up for when you decided to join a network marketing business. It far better to follow up on inactive customers or to look for new customers. If you don’t have a high volume of personal sales, it is difficult for you to get your team to generate higher sales. If you want a stronger bottom line, everyone has to be generating higher sales volume.


Many leaders go to into management mode because they cannot handle the rejections and the high failure rate. If this is the problem, then you must learn how to improve on your prospecting and presentation skills and closing strategies. Keep working on these key skills until it becomes a daily part of your fun activities. If you have problems sponsoring from your existing network, it is time to join other social or professional networks to gain access to new prospects.


Many leaders have the urge to get into management mode because they think they have found an “fool proof” technique / system which can accelerate their team’s growth. However, this technique / system has not been tested in their current team  / business environment. This usually lead to disillusionment when some team members find that this new system is working for them or worse still, they go and try out some other untested methods.. By all means try new methods which are a natural / incremental progression of your existing success methods that the team have been using all along. But stay within the familiar environment that they are used to. People want a simple system to run on – forever, if possible. Any new method may cause some of your frail members to lose confidence in themselves and cause them to even lose faith in your existing system which are yielding some promising results so far.


One of the greatest disservice you can do your team is to tell them that they can recruit most of their people online. This market segment is mostly populated with people who are interested in get rich quick schemes, money games etc.. I’ve seen many friends who get involved in such scams and continually jump from one such company to another until they have burnt out all their cash and friends.  People who get involved in such schemes usually don’t have integrity as the people who join them will usually end up losers. Most online opportunities basically sell management mode vehicles for people who don’t want to live in the real world. You cannot create a real business if you don’t selling real products, solve real problems and have a repeatable business. Anyone who tells you that such business concepts are outdated do not have a good, viable business model that you can rely on. These marketing models are usually short lived and die off as soon as the hype has worn out and / or the company closes down (usually in one or two years or even less). Picking up the phone or going outside to meet people and solving their problems is still the best way of generating new business.


Unless there are good reasons for doing so, you should not break away into smaller teams. Creative energies, social recognition and group endorsements work best on a bigger stage environment. There is strength in numbers. The bigger the meeting, the greater is the success rate. The more people in the room, the greater the excitement and synergy your team will have. The greater the number of success stories / recognition shared within the team, the more motivated members will be. Action speaks louder than the words of any leader. Don’t let ego lead you to operate in a less than optimal environment.


Here is what I recommend if you intend to go into Motivational or Management Mode:

  • If your team has less than 100 people spend no more than 10% of your time in management mode
  • If your team has less than 500 people spend no more than 20% of your time in management mode
  • If your team has less than 1,000 people spend no more than 30% of your time in management mode
  • If your team has less than 5,000 people spend no more than 40% of your time in management mode.

As your team grows, you will spend more and more time in management mode, HOWEVER, you should never spend a MAJORITY of your time in management mode. And you should NEVER totally leave the trenches yourself.

Even when you are in management mode, you’ll have to identify your key players and make sure you are NOT working with people who are a waste of time. These usually mean people who may be active but who lack focus and commitment. Use the time working on your own direct marketing and recruitment activities instead.

To be successful in network marketing, you must first work on yourself. Your success is free advertisement which will attract new people to your team and serve as a vehicle to help them to work towards higher goals and achievements.

Stay focused and be positive. The more you learn, the more you earn. Network marketing is one big self-development course.

  3. Do not stay Focused, are easily Distracted, lack Discipline ie Procrastinate or not Consistent in their daily activities
  4. Do not do Income Producing Activities
  5. Lack some basic selling techniques (usually due to lack of proper training by their leaders)
  6. Try to Hard Sell and make Promises They Can’t Keep
  7. Don’t Build a Relationship with their prospects
  8. Negativity – Fear Rejection, Fear Calling and Meeting People.
  9. Don’t love / believe in your Products, Company, Opportunity & their Services enough
  10. Not involved in Team Events & Meetings. Not a team player.
  11. Don’t Invest in Personal Development
  12. Look for Quick Results – which require No Work, No Selling, with too-good-to-be-true Guaranteed Returns etc
  13. Over- learn and make Simple Ideas complicated
  14. Don’t have a plan to expand their Network
  15. Don’t Train their team
  16. Quit too early – lacking long term commitment.

You don’t need a high IQ to succeed in this business. But you will need the right temperament to persevere as many people will say “No”. Success is based on the Law of Averages. So a good work ethic will pay off eventually. Successful people don’t pick and choose tasks.  They are willing to do everything that is necessary.

Don’t take advice from people who are not currently building a business. You can learn nothing from unsuccessful and negative people. Learn only from those who are successful.

Before you can succeed in any endeavour, you must strongly believe that you can do it.  Have a dream. prioritise goals, write out your daily activities plan to achieve these goals and commit your time completing your daily activities. This plan applies to any business you are starting – not just network marketing / MLM.

If you look at all the successful people in business, you will see that they had failed many times before they succeeded. We have an Opportunity for Change. You don’t have to quit your job immediately. You just need to start small and work from the comfort of your own home.

Network Marketing is following the growth curve of Franchising. In the initial phase, the industry will face numerous problems including business models that are not sustainable or even fraudulent. Eventually, the bad companies will be weeded out and people become business savvy of what will work and what won’t. If you do your due diligence and research, you will find some relatively new network marketing companies which will make the grade and go on to join the ranks of the billion dollar companies in the network marketing business. Network marketing is not a get rich quick scheme. Those who join such scams will be sorely disappointed and see their efforts,  money and reputation do down the drain.  A true business requires effort, knowledge and a proven business system to make it work long term.  It also requires a company that has a dedicated, experienced and honest management that will protect its long term business interests and do whatever it takes to ensure  it retains the loyalty of its distributors.

Why Many “SUPPLEMENTAL INCOME” Ideas Aren’t Worth Your Time – And What You Might Do With It Instead.

Quite often, I’ll get excited requests from people who have stumbled upon some great idea for an alternative / supplemental income and want me to join them in making the scheme work.

Here are a few of the suggestions of alternative supplemental income I’ve heard:

  • + Sell items online. Assuming you know what items will sell everytime and you don’t end up with a lot of dead stocks+ Write a Blog and Make Money selling advertising. Assuming you know how to write good in-demand articles that can get Click-through advertising everyday.
  • + Buy in Bulk and sell individual items/paks by front-load buying schemes. Assuming you don’t eventually end up with a houseful of unwanted stocks whIch will wipe your all your profits sooner and later.
  • + Do “Riskless, Product-less” “investment money games” and other online marketing scams. Assuming there are enough suckers to make you rich long term and you don’t hurt your reputation in the process. Cheating is bad karma and people you’ve cheated may put a curse on you and your future generations even if God doesn’t. There are a lot of unverified claims from these people about how much they earn but they are usually not in the top 100 MLM Earners for more than one year and there are no new success stories every year that can be independently certified / verified. Some of these involve black hat SEO (dirty tricks) techniques which Google and other search engines algorithms will detect and blacklist (take offline) your website in next to no time.
  • + Sell your time and talents online. Assuming you can get enough regular income to pay for your grocery bills. If you can, good for you. Very few can produce a regular income in the long run. So you’ll have to keep building and reinventing every year or so.In a nutshell,

I view all of these ideas as a waste of time, and here’s why.

First, the pay for the time invested is very low. The best you can hope for with these sites is something approaching minimum wage – and that’s only on rare occasions when high-paying options come through. Mostly, you’re just loitering for a dollar or two an hour.

Second, you’re not building anything. The first problem might be tolerable if you were building something for the long term that would earn you much more per hour, but with services like these, you’re not. You get paid per piece, with that piece being strictly independent of other work. You can’t earn a raise or a higher rate of return with sustained quality work. If you’re extremely lucky, you might happen to randomly attract someone through the freelancing sites (Squidoo, AC, Elance, Guru, etc.) who’s interested in your work individually for more tasks, but the odds are very low.

I understand that many people do such things during idle times, when they are required to be in front of a computer for a period of time but don’t have any specific work requirements to be fulfilled (like a front desk receptionist, for instance).

I also know that many people do activities like this in the evening in the family room while the television is on as something to do to “earn a few bucks” while watching television.In either case, why not invest that time doing something that produces more value – or at least has the potential to produce more value?

Here are the Criteria for Selecting the Right Network Marketing / MLM Company.

1. GET A BUSINESS THAT IS BUILT TO LAST. The last thing you want to do is to put time, money, effort, resources and your credibility on the line for a business that is failing or slowing down.

2. JOIN A MLM COMPANY WHICH IS AT LEAST 1O YEARS OLD and WHICH IS STILL GROWING IN NORTH AMERICA. If the company is not growing in North America, it means that growth is not sustainable in the long term.

3. JOIN A REPUTABLE, FINANCIALLY STABLE USA COMPANY. You don’t want to waste your time on a company that can close down anytime.

4. LOW MONTHLY MAINTENANCE. You should just buy products for your own use which should not cost more than US$180+ [S$220] per month. You teach others to do the same. If it is a front-loading scheme, it is no better than direct sales. You might as well be a insurance or property agent where the returns are better.

5. JOIN A COMPANY WHICH CREATES ITS OWN PRODUCTS IN-HOUSE AND PROVIDE QUALITY ASSURANCE and MONEY BACK EVERYTIME. If you don’t have unique, world class products that people want, how can you generate repeat monthly sales?. Are the products Halal certified and does the halal certification logo printed on the internal packaging of the products?  Are the products free from soy, GMOs, artificial preservatives, sweeteners, flavors or coloring?  If you don’t have this how are you going to survive in such a business?


  • – pays UNLIMITED DEPTH on both your 2 Legs / Teams so you will be earning on your whole team volume. It should pay on one strong leg and one weak leg as it is difficult to build & balance two equally strong legs.
  • – have NO BREAKAWAYS  ie no matter how high a rank your enrollled associate attains, they will still remain in your organisation and you will continue to earn from their team volume
  • NO CUT OFFS, NO BLOCKING. As there are no fixed levels / generations you can override, your income is limitless. You  won’t have to worry about associates with small volume blocking your access to earning income from big producers deep down in your organisation.
  • 10% MATCHING BONUS. Earn at least 10% of what your personally enrolled associates earn as part of your team building efforts.
  • NO FLUSH OFF  Whatever volume you and your team generate can be carried over to next week/month. Your efforts are not wasted and you don’t have to restart your volume from zero.
  • PAYS ON RE-ORDERS, Generates residual income everytime your success line continues to use the products
  • ALLOWS FOR RE-ENTRIES when you have maximised your current two legs. Such re-entries usually pays more (% wise) than the original two legs,

Some comp plans pay better in the beginning but cannot be sustained over the long term without affecting the survivalibility of the company in the long run.

7. THE COMPANY IS NOT OVERLY EXPANDED GLOBALLY  There is still a lot of room for the company to grow,

8. IT IS A LEGACY COMPANY  The owners do not intend to sell the company or to get it publicily listed in the stock exchange thereby protecting the interests of its Associates.

9. A TRULY WAVE 4 ONLINE INTERNET ENABLED COMPANY  You can do most of your mlm biz activities online –

  • – buying products and shipping to your doorstep
  • – learning about the company, products, doing the biz
  • – keeping track of your business and signing up people online
  • – your own free company website.

If you company have these, then you’ll have more time on important activity like prospecting, presenting and follow up.

10. ONLINE LEARNING & DIRECT ACCESS TO COMPANY MARKETING TOOLS THAT ARE REASONABLY PRICED. As you can learn the biz and buy company marketing tools online direct, You are not at the mercy of incompetent and predatory leaders / uplines / support lines. Should be available on Facebook, YouTube and company websites.

11. IT DOES NOT COST YOU A FORTUNE TO ATTEND COMPANY EVENTS. The high cost of attending regular events will eat into your long term profits. Your objective is to earn big money as quickly as possible ie 1-3 years. My objective has always been to make it big within the first year otherwise you’ll easily be discouraged and slow down and this in turn will discourage your associates as well.

12. DOES THE COMPANY HAVE A STRONG MANAGEMENT in corporate governance, distributor compliance & training and  and product development? Has the ownership of the company changed hands in the past 10 years?


For over a decade I’ve shared these with my prospects and team. That is why Network Marketing / MLM is my choice career. Because I understood the magic of the Power of Two’s  results on expotential growth and compounding interest.

“If you understood residual income, you’d walk through a brick wall to get it!”

Here is an illustration on compounding interest:  If the number of water lilies doubles every day in a pond starting with one water lily…. how full will the pond be on the 29th (second last) day of the experiment?  The is answer is 50% full. On the 30th day, the pond will be 100% full of water lilies. That is how powerful the power of two is,

Do the work right ONE time and get paid OVER and OVER and OVER again for a long time. What’s not to like?!

The Wrong Car Salesman. This guy would not stop talking about a car long enough to know that I just wasn’t interested in it. Yet he kept going into detail about that car.

My kind of Car Salesperson. I met this a very pleasant sales lady. She took the time to introduce herself and to ask questions of me to learn what I wanted/needed/did not want in a vehicle.

Her questions were along the lines of “do you have a preference about petrol consumption?” “Do you place comfort over function?” and “Will you do more city or highway type driving?”

She covered all of these basic questions before we even started to look at the vehicles on display. Upon answering these questions, I learned that I wanted/needed a vehicle that got good petrol mileage and was more comfortable.

This wonderful saleslady found out that I would buy comfort and good petrol mileage. So, this is what she proceeded to sell me and I have had no regrets.

That saleslady did not try to sell me a car of any type – she sold me what I needed/wanted. I just happened to drive away in a sedan.

Do not sell what your customer will not buy:

The first time you hear or read my tip this week it may seem a little odd. But by the end of this article it will make sense to you. The tip is, “Never sell what the prospect won’t buy.”

How can you do this? The quick answer is – don’t mention what you’re selling until you know the prospect will buy it!

It’s as simple as that.

Ask what your prospects needs/wants or doesn’t want. By doing this, you’re basically asking “what they WILL buy.” Once you find that out, use it as your selling point. This is what they will buy! How do you know for sure they will buy it? They said they would!

As an example: I’m talking with a prospect who answered an ad for “working from home.” I ask them why they want to work from home – if they say, “So I can spend more time with my children.” DING my bell goes off That is what the prospect will buy! I don’t know if he’ll buy, “debt f.r.e.e company with 12 international patents”. I don’t know if he’ll buy “my up-line is making $20,000 per month.” But what I know he’ll buy is the ability to “spend more time with my children.” So that’s all I sell!

In another example, let’s suppose you’re selling skin care products. You tell that person you have a product that gets rid of pimples and that person replies, “I don’t get pimples.” Well, you just destroyed your sell. From that point it’s very awkward to back up and say, “Well I have a product that reduces wrinkles.”

Instead, start by asking something like, “Do you use skin care products?” “What do you use them for?” With the answers you get, you’re able to communicate and sell them what they need; not what they don’t need.

A sharp salesperson knows exactly what their customer should buy, even more than the customer. If a person walks into a store to buy a drill bit, for example, the smart hardware salesperson will ask enough questions to get all the information before they make a recommendation. Questions like, “How big of a hole do you need?” “How deep do you need the hole?” “What material are you drilling through?” By asking the right questions, that salesperson will sell exactly what that prospect needs. You see, the prospect didn’t need a drill bit; they needed a hole.

Another angle on this is to eliminate what your prospect doesn’t want to figure out the right products for them. If your prospect doesn’t want to work for his boss any more, then you sell her that- The tools to quit her job and embark on her rewarding network marketing venture. – people don’t like to be sold, they like to buy

You are never too young or too old to dream big dreams. Who you ARE are not crucial determinant Success Factors to Personal Wealth. What you DO on a regular basis, however, are Success Factors to Personal Wealth!
If you have the success factors or attributes of highly successful and effective people or if you are willing to learn and to acquire such skills, you too can acquire personal wealth beyond your wildest dreams.


Generally, people who have taken small paid jobs when they were young have already acquired some of the necessary success factors that will put them in good stead in running successful businesses later on.
In defining the success factors (below) which will enable you to amass incredible personal wealth, I have used paperboys and rainmakers (high performance sales people, working business owners and partners in a company) as examples of what it takes to be successful:
  • discipline
    • Paperboys have to get up every morning without fail and deliver all the newspapers before everyone wakes up for breakfast irregardless of the weather.
    • Rainmakers are willing to sacrifice the comforts of today for the bigger rewards of tomorrow;
  • organizational skills
    • Paperboys have to train other kids to act as their replacement in case they are unable to deliver the newspapers on that day.
    • Rainmakers know how to train, manage and lead people effectively. They also know how to deliver their product or service consistently and systematically to the customer’s requirements and satisfaction.
  • salesmanship
    • Paperboys know that if don’t sell the newspapers, they don’t paid. They realize that they must keep their customers satisfied if they want to keep them.
    • Rainmakers recognize that sales is essentially knowing how to make friends and influence people. Read Dale Carnegie‘s timeless classic book on this subject if you are serious in wanting to be a rainmaker in any business. As Lee Iacocca says: “If you can’t get along with people, you shouldn’t be in this business (sales) “. We make sales everyday (but we do not get paid for it) when we make any recommendation that convinces someone to get more information, try, buy, use more or replace something. They also treat each customer as special and important and give each customer a personalized sales presentation geared to their specific needs and concerns. No Sales = No Customers = No Income = No Companies;
  • goals and a good value system
    • Paperboys do not buckle under peer pressure. Making money so they can enjoy a better quality lifestyle more important to them than what people think about them.
    • Rainmakers are not worried about rejections or the fear of failure and do not to let negative people or thoughts influence them. They believe in themselves and passionately in what they do;
  • self-starters
    • Paperboys stay fit, ensure their bicycle is in good working condition, wake up early, make their paper route and go to school without parental supervision.
    • Rainmakers are prepared to do whatever is necessary to be successful. They do not need anyone to remind them what they must do each day. They enjoy what they do and are highly motivated towards continuous self-improvement and renewal.
  • flexible
    • Paperboys must deliver newspapers according to changing clientale, weather and road conditions.
    • Rainmakers are responsive, adaptable and proactive to changes in the market place. Changes brings challenges, breaks inertia, rituals, habits etc and provides new opportunities and new results. As Albert Einstein said: “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

With proper mental attitude, better (newly acquired) sales techniques and the personal freedom and responsibility to pursue higher productivity, you too can be successful in business.

Your next task is to choose the right business which can give you long term, high leveraged growth. One that can give you a quality lifestyle which allows you to take a series of well-earned mini-retirements now – rather than when you are too old or too sick to fully enjoy it.

My Network Marketing Business On Auto Pilot

One of the benefits of Network Marketing is that you will be able to take a Sabbatical from time to time without it impacting on your earnings. As long as you have built a big success line and have people who are committed to the network marketing business, you will be able take time off to attend to family matters for several weeks. You will, however, have to ensure you have a lean, mean network marketing organization and your working partners are willing to help you out while you’re away on personal matters. This collaborative arrangement ensures the survival and success of your business empire.
In the Network marketing business, it is normal for associates and partners help each other. A synergistic alliances between senior partners and new associates make the business a flexible and robust one. Without mutual help, your network marketing business will be like any other business: “The Power of One”.

Network Marketing on the other hand is “The Power of the Multiplication of One“, where we leverage and help partners and associates. What holds true for the three Musketeers, holds true for network marketers: “All for One, and One for All“.

It is not true that new business cannot be written while you are “away”. Your “network marketing office” is never “closed”. You can prospect everywhere, even while you are touring. In fact, there will be many opportunities to meet people and prospect while you are on holiday.

Even if you are in a “holiday mode”, you will be able to exchange name cards with people you meet (on planes, buses, restaurants and even on the street while on tour). When you get back, you will have a stack of nice, warm contacts to follow up on. Contacts which could even possibly pay for the holiday trip! You have fun and make money at the same time.

Well folks, this is the time of year when I take my annual family vacation. This year, we will be heading for the Eastern side of the USA. It has been several years since I have been to the eastside USA, so I am looking forward to the trip though it will be a very hectic road trip.

Follow The System:

A Good System should be Simple, Easy, Effective and Duplicable. I use CD tools extensively for my I have many associates in remote places in Asia and they in turn learn from Leaders through such training CDs.

My recorded speeches made at company Conventions as far back as 2001 are used as motivational tools for my associates. It is no wonder, that many of the Thai and other Asian delegates at regional conventions recognized me even if I don’t know them personally.

The remarkable difference between Singapore and the neighboring countries is that we did not bargain with the company for a lower Start Up amount or a Lower Maintenance. From day one, they stuck to the 500PV (equivalent to S$1200) of initial purchase of products if someone wants to start the MLM business and a Monthly Commitment of 200 PV (about S$500).I wouldn’t to waste time with someone who is not able to raise S$1200 to start a big business.

For those who are unable to consume S$500 worth of product per month, they can, for example, use S$100 and sell S$400.

We were in for a surprise!We found out that many people actually used more than S$500 worth of products per month for themselves and their family.They even wiped out stocks in Singapore because of the high demand.

My team have come a long way.(It is not that long ago – 4-5 years – to go from zero income to a 7 figure annual income (US$, not Baht!).

Amazing to see so many young people ages 20-30 earning between S$10,000-S$30,000 per month.They are  ordinary folks who have Big Dreams.They come from all walks of life – from teachers, nurses, government employees, clerks, secretaries to professionals, and owners of businesses.

For the last 20 years, my mentor been in and out of many network marketing / mlm / direct sales companies.Most of the time, the lifespan of these companies were far shorter than his tenure in the company. Each time a MLM or direct sales company collapsed, he lost everything.He even started his own network marketing company.He finally gave up because it could not provide him the lifestyle he dreamed of:Time + Money Freedom. I’m lucky I did not have to go through such an ordeal

He was also a consultant to some network marketing / MLM companies and that too did not last long. Deep in his heart, he knew that the only way for him to get what he wanted is to build a very successful franchise in a proven company (which has a good track record and offers real, marketable products). The opportunity came when a Presidential Sapphire spoke to him about the business.

The initial start up period  was no plain sailing. At one stage (in 2004), his Associates were reduced from a few hundreds to just a handful.In spite of this major setback, he believed deep in his heart that the business can make his dreams come true.So he persisted with the remaining few leaders and within a few years, they brought in thousands of new Associates.

We also attended the company Seminars and they were packed with more than 2000 enthusiastic people.

His success is an inspiration to millions across Asia. During the trip, we came across many other successful and inspirational direct selling stories.I will share these rags to riches stories with you at another time.

The Thais are experiencing great success with another 30% growth in August 2007.Despite having 100 or more network marketing companies / MLM operating in Thailand, health drinks are selling like hot cakes.It is a drink of choice for their film stars, doctors, politicians, right down to taxi drivers, construction workers.This is a testimony to the efficacy of the company products.

Towards the end of September 2007, the company had a team over 200 delegates to the Japan Convention. By the time they get to Japan, they will have more than 250 new top ranking Associates.This is certainly cause for celebration in the Thai camp. And a victory for direct sellers.

Tip #1 – Join the Right Company

You must join the right company if you want to succeed in a network marketing business / MLM:

The business has a level playing field. People who come in “late” into the business, not only have a chance of doing well, but even exceeding the earnings of those who joined earlier. This is the true test of a good network marketing / MLM company.

With the right company, everyone can succeed – even physically handicapped people, who is wheelchair bound.He became Senior Associate within a few months of joining the company!

Hearing & talking to them is such an inspiration! “People look at me as a person on wheelchair, but my brain is not sitting on a wheelchair! My Dreams do not sit on a wheelchair!” If a physically disabled person simply would not let his handicap stop him from pursuing his Dreams, what about the rest of us?. How often do we meet able people who have forgotten how to Dream? Or worse still, don’t believe they could achieve their Dreams? Let’s share this amazing life story of Pong Sak with them, for it could reignite their dreams.

On being asked how he managed to travel all the way from Chiang Mai to attend the Rally in Bangkok, he said “My heart is with the company, if I want to be there, I will get there!” How powerful!

Similarly, I won’t let excuses stop me from pursuing what I feel is important to me! I’ll just simply do it till I get it – that’s the most valuable lesson for me. If disabled person can do it, so can I!

Tip #2 – Be a Great Leader

The only way to succeed in direct sales is to be a great leader.

A successful Bangkok Business Rally and the following day’s full day training had a turnout of more than 2000 people. The Thais are not only growing , they are growing bigger and faster.

When I saw the size of the crowd attending the Rally, it immediately gave me a motivating thought. The only way to grow to a size like that is to have a good number of leaders. The bigger the organization we want to build, the more leaders we need to have.

We saw a couple of Presidential Club members moving up the ranks during this trip. This is encouraging as it shows that the growth is consistent with people moving up in a predictable manner.

We have all heard company’s CEO talk about the importance of leadership, here in Thailand we got to see leadership at its best. For how can a man run host an event for more than 2000 associates all by himself? Not to mention 2 concurrent sessions of training in one day. Bottom line: Size of Organization = Number of Leaders.

So I guess the question is how do we get a good number of leaders in our organization? Well, we can look at the success of the Thais for inspiration, we can look at our immediate up line for guidance or we can look at the mirror and start working with that person.

Tip #3 – Have a BIG Dream

One of my leaders said “I am inspired to develop myself and more importantly lead myself even more just like how my up line, Nancy Long does, setting an great example and walking the talk. If the Thais can do it, so can we”.

I admire the enthusiasm of Thai people and their Business Associates. Whether young or old, they joined the company with a clear dream in mind.

The turnout of the Rally on the 8 September 2007 was truly awesome. Two thousand plus of them coming to the event with so much energy and enthusiasm! All of them came for the Rally with the correct attitude. Wearing different color polo t-shirts, they reflect unity in diversity.

People who are serious about the network marketing business must know how to dream.They know, too, what it takes to achieve the dream. For example, a Thai lady from the province taught us that anyone can do the business successfully as long as they put their hearts and souls into it. Initially, she did not even dare to talk to people.However, driven by her dream, she learn to open up and persevere, and talk to as many people as possible. She now owns a Mercedes car. Her husband helps to chauffeur her from province to province so she can deliver products. She now has no problems talking to a big group of people.

Tip #4 – Do Whatever it takes to be Successful

My strategy is to:

  1. add more names in my contact list,
  2. call more people, meet more people,
  3. talk to more people about the business and products
  4. and therefore achieve a positive growth in my direct sales organization.

Action speaks louder than words. Less Work / Effort = Less Results. On the other hand, More Work / Effort = Better Results.
