At this time of year I find myself reflecting on an experience I had many years ago. It was 1997 and a fellow Bios Life Franchise Owner (I will call him Jon) in one of our international markets had been insisting that I come and spend time with him and his down line. I put it off and used every polite excuse I could think of to get out of the trip. He reminded me that I had promised. I boarded a plane and made the long trip there. I was mildly resentful and just wanted to get the trip over with. As I landed, the humidity hit me, my exhaustion hit me and my prejudice of this trip hit me. I was not happy to be there. I went to catch a taxi was overwhelmed by the mass of people all trying to get downtown. The heat and smells of the city were making me wish I were home. I checked into the hotel and found that a message was waiting for me. The message was that the meeting had been pushed up and would begin in just 30 minutes. I was frustrated; I wanted to eat, clean up and rest. Instead, I brushed my teeth and went to the lobby.
As I entered the meeting room, I was thronged by people I didn’t know. Everyone was speaking at once. I felt anxious and ready for some quiet. My host took the microphone and over the noise asked everyone to sit down and prepare to begin. Slowly, everyone took a seat and quiet came over the room. I was relieved to sit in the calm for a moment. Jon welcomed everyone to the meeting. Jon discussed the agenda and announced I was the keynote speaker for the event. He looked at me and he stopped. He lowered his head and then looked up again to speak. He paused. An uncomfortable silence filled the room. Then he began: “Everyone, please know that this man is here for one reason. He keeps his promises. He wants success for me and for you. He is here not because he wants to, but because he couldn’t do anything else. He made a commitment.” My heart melted and with it, every prejudice I had about Jon, his downline and this trip. That moment changed me forever. That moment defined me. I made a promise. I made a commitment.
I committed to you, two years ago, that I would make a difference. I promised I would. We have introduced a Franchise Development system. It’s about making you successful in your market in your best way. We have new tools in the US and EU. We have new products specifically designed for the markets in Japan, Thailand and South America. On the corporate side, we are hiring the best talent we can find and training them to build our business. We are traveling to be with you at every opportunity. We call you, write you and support you.
It’s not enough. I made a commitment, but I have not yet kept my promise.
This New Year is wonderfully exciting to me. We get to join together in nine months in Pusan, Korea at our 2008 Global Leadership Convention. My vision is to define who we are even more. One of the benefits of Network Marketing is that you will be able to take a Sabbatical from time to time without it impacting on your earnings. As long as you have built a big success line and have people who are committed to the network marketing business, you will be able take time off to attend to family matters for several weeks. You will, however, have to ensure you have a lean, mean network marketing organization and your working partners are willing to help you out while you’re away on personal matters. This collaborative arrangement ensures the survival and success of your business empire.
In the Network marketing business, it is normal for associates and partners help each other. A synergistic alliances between senior partners and new associates make the business a flexible and robust one. Without mutual help, your network marketing business will be like any other business: “The Power of One”.
Network Marketing on the other hand is “The Power of the Multiplication of One“, where we leverage and help partners and associates. What holds true for the three Musketeers, holds true for network marketers: “All for One, and One for All“.
It is not true that new business cannot be written while you are “away”. Your “network marketing office” is never “closed”. You can prospect everywhere, even while you are touring. In fact, there will be many opportunities to meet people and prospect while you are on holiday.
Even if you are in a “holiday mode”, you will be able to exchange name cards with people you meet (on planes, buses, restaurants and even on the street while on tour). When you get back, you will have a stack of nice, warm contacts to follow up on. Contacts which could even possibly pay for the holiday trip! You have fun and make money at the same time.
Well folks, this is the time of year when I take my annual family vacation. This year, we will be heading for the Eastern side of the USA. It has been several years since I have been to the eastside USA, so I am looking forward to the trip though it will be a very hectic road trip.

The remarkable difference between Thailand and the neighboring countries is they did not bargain with the company for a lower Start Up amount or a Lower Maintenance.From day one, they stuck to the 500PV (equivalent to S$1200) of initial purchase of products if someone wants to start the Unicity Franchise and a Monthly Commitment of 200 PV (about S$500).Joe said that he did not want to waste time with someone who is not able to raise S$1200 to start a big business.
For those who are unable to consume S$500 worth of product per month, they can, for example, use S$100 and sell S$400.
We were in for a surprise!We found out that many of them actually used more than S$500 worth of products per month for themselves and their family.They even wiped out stocks in Singapore because of the high demand in Thailand.

The Bangkok Business Rally proves to me, once again, that the Unicity business has a level playing field.People who come in “late” into the business, not only have a chance of doing well, but even exceeding the earnings of those who joined earlier. This is the true test of a good network marketing / MLM company.
With Unicity, everyone can succeed – even physically handicapped people, like Pong Sak from Chiang Mai, Thailand, who is wheelchair bound.He became Senior Manager within a few months of joining Unicity!

A successful Bangkok Business Rally and the following day’s full day training had a turnout of more than 2000 people. The Thais are not only growing , they are growing bigger and faster.
When I saw the size of the crowd attending the Rally, it immediately gave me a motivating thought. The only way to grow to a size like that is to have a good number of leaders. The bigger the organization we want to build, the more leaders we need to have.
We saw a couple of Presidential Club members moving up the ranks during this trip. This is encouraging as it shows that the growth is consistent with people moving up in a predictable manner.
We have all heard Stewart Hughes talk about the importance of leadership, here in Thailand we got to see leadership at its best. For how can a man run host an event for more than 2000 associates all by himself? Not to mention 2 concurrent sessions of training in one day. Bottom line: Size of Organization = Number of Leaders.
So I guess the question is how do we get a good number of leaders in our organization? Well, we can look at the success of the Thais for inspiration, we can look at our immediate up line for guidance or we can look at the mirror and start working with that person.
I am inspired to develop myself and more importantly lead myself even more just like how my up line, Nancy Long does, setting an great example and walking the talk. If the Thais can do it, so can we.

I admire the enthusiasm of Thai people and their Business Associates. Whether young or old, they joined Unicity with a clear dream in mind.
The turnout of the Rally on the 8 September 2007 at Rama Garden was truly awesome. Two thousand plus of them coming to the event with so much energy and enthusiasm!All of them came for the Rally with the correct attitude. Wearing different color polo t-shirts, they reflect unity in diversity.
People who are serious about the network marketing business must know how to dream.They know, too, what it takes to achieve the dream.
